The stock alternator can only pump out 51AMPS. I needed more power so I installed the largest marine alternator I could find. 150 AMPS is overkill but I was thinking of the future when I bought it.
I purchased the new alternator from Battery Shack for $400. They were exceptionally helpful and answered all my questions. The installation was extremely easy except for the circuit breaker. It's buried in the back of the engine so it took time to install and properly wire the new 150 AMP breaker.

Stock alternator (51 AMP).

New 150 AMP alternator.

Installing a High Output alternator:

Step 1
Disconnect the batteries from the boat.

Step 2
Remove 3 wires from rear of stock alternator:
          orange (power output)
          black (ground)
          purple (exciter)

Step 3
Remove the stock alternator by unscrewing the 2 bolts.

Step 4
Place the new alternator in position and screw in the 2 bolts

Note: I recommend replacing the 2 mounting bolts with new ones.

Step 5
Installing the .5" serpentine belt is extremely easy because it's self adjusting. HELL YA! Use your foot and step on the adjustment ball. Slide the belt on. No adjustment needed.

Step 6
Remove the rear panel that holds the circuit breaker. Disconnect all necessary components.

Step 7
Remove the old 51 AMP circuit breaker and replace it with a 150 AMP circuit breaker. I mounted the new circuit breaker over the old one.
Install the read panel.
Step 8
Use my wire diagram to complete the install. The new alternator only needs the power supply wire. The unit is self grounding and has an internal voltage regulator.
Reconnect the batteries and test the new system. I get about 14.2 at idle.

Note:
I removed the orange wire but kept the black and purple. This is for fallback reasons so I can pop in my old alternator if I have problems.

Here is my 150AMP circuit breaker.
